Next Steps

I spoke to Random House yesterday about the sale, this blog and the potential for a subscriber/supporter buy out of the DFC.
There is a lot to be done but it seems that there is some real scope to make this work.
There are three main tasks:
  1. spreading the word about the DFC and this campaign

  2. securing sufficient capital to support the DFC for a further year or more of operation

  3. creating a 'vehicle' for the purchase and continued existence of the DFC
The response to this blog has been very encouraging and the generosity of the pledglings, young and not so young is astonishing. Keep it up everyone.... you never know, we might actually end up saving something that actually deserves saving.

  1. Sounds like a great idea, have you thought of setting up a facebook group too? They tend to go viral pretty fast,

  4. What about the idea of joint ownership with someone like Egmont (they are publiblishing a best of 'Roy of the Rovers' next week in WH Smith) or Random House?

  5. My daughter has just sent in a letter to the Guardian about the Roy of the Rovers story in the Guardian today (and she'll also send in a letter for "miniGuardian" published on the back of the Saturday Guardian comic some weeks).

I'll let you know how she gets on.

  6. Sorry - I should have said that she was noting how sad it was that one comic was being resurrected while another comic was closing its doors, and asking for somebody to save the DFC.

  12. I see they've taken down the DFC website now and replaced it with the DFC preview micro site. Why did they do that?

  13. Bad times for all. Really support this idea and I do hope something comes of it.

  14. I was alerted to this by reading Tom Hodgkinson in the Telegraph. Although my children are too old for DFC, it worries me that there is so little good quality media for children. I discovered recently that BBC Radio 4 have pulled the plug on Go for it! which although not very good was the only programme for children on Radio 4. I do hope the newly relaunched Puffin Post will survive.
